Family Trip to Western Australia 130907-230907

On the 13th of September 2007, i headed of to KLIA to meet with my relatives, as we were all heading to Perth to attend our cousin's (Magdalene's) wedding... and to tour Western Australia...

Upon arrival, we were checked into an apartment on a golf course in swan valley (i think that's what it's called, i've forgotten..), where the wedding will be held, and which will be posted about separately..

this is the picture of our first accomodation, a little house on a golf course.. here we have Yen Ling and i, and well the cars which we used to travel in the whole of Western Australia...

Nothing much happened there, except the wedding, which as i said, will be blogged separately...

so after the wedding, we packed everyone, and everything into the two cars.. and off we went!!

*****
Smell the salt in the air!! As we've finally left Perth to start our touring of Western Australia.....

Our first stop was at freemantle, but i labeled it as our second, although theoretically our first stop was perth....

i wanted to sit ala litte mermaid style like i did in Dublin, but the rock wasn't stable.. and i'm not a very good swimmer haha...

as i love the sea, and the salty smell.. this was a nice welcome.. :)

when i saw this, i was like.. what? S.O.Y means Shit on you?? and it's true.. after i asked some other friends (who were studying in Australia..) but this was taken at a pier that we went to eat.. and well it was seafood.. our first seafood encounter.. i don't think i took pictures of the food, because it was gone as soon as it came.. since everyone was hungry...

Yen ling and i, one wearing black, one white.. haha.. ying and yang? this was taken at a honey farm, which we non golf players went to, to pass some time. we thought the scenery behind us looked nice. so there we are.. :p it was kind of warm at that time, so we didn't need our coats :p

*****

Our second stop... brought us close to nature, as we stayed in a cabin located in a forest reserve (we even had a barbeque at the cabin, but as i was too busy helping out, i didn't manage to take pictures... sigh..), and we went to a neighbouring forest reserve (yes, yet another forest, we were surrounded with it..) for the all famous tree top walk...

Unfortunately for us, it was raining before that, and as we all know, when it rains, it's cold... thus we were all bundled in wind proof jackets and we headed up onto the platform, to walk above the ground...

Here we have all the ladies, there is aunt Cindy, me, aunt Alice, yen ping, dai yi, and yen ling...

this was what we walked on... it was really stable and shook ever so slightly with the strongest winds.. here we have yen ping and i.. well we all know that my hands always freeze easily, hence my gloves :p i love my Zara coat :p (my sister bought it for me when i was in Prague, she has a matching coat!! :p )

Once we got off the walk, there is a little trail on the ground which we could walk.. to look at some of the magnificent trees from the ground..

*****

The next reserve we went to, was home to a tree called the Gloucester tree, where there is a tree about 7 storeys high, i think.. and which was used as a look out during olden times for forest fires.. unfortunately i fear heights.. and the steps.. more like a ladder? it wasn't really a ladder, basically it was just thin little steel bars of about 1.5 cm in daimetere, embedded in the tree to form your steps all the way up...

The sign.. click to enlarge and read more.. the pictures of us climbing up the tree is with uncle robert... which i don't have yet... eventhough it's already half a year since our trip (time sure flies..)...

but on the ground we had some fun feeding all the colourful parakeets.. they were so cute and tame, and their claws were really sharp....

***

Im not very sure about this stop, but at some point we did stop at a place called The Gap, a place named after a huge gap between some rocks where the sea water splashes up...

the angle of sun and the burst of waves allowed for this shot to be taken, a beautiful rainbow.. the gap is actually dangerous, and people who are light weighted should not enter alone, or the strong wind could very well blow you into the water, and you may drown...

intially we had difficulties passing through to get to the viewing deck, because water kept splashing down on us like bullets, it hurt, and the wind was harsh... but it was fun, as we screamed and ran from the water haha.. it was freaking cold too...

a family picture of us at the viewing deck of the gap.. well it's kind of hard to say who is who, and some have been blocked.. so i digress haha..

with the angle of the sun, the water catching the brilliance of the light just at the right angle, it was really beautiful...

***
At our next stop, we stayed 2 nights at a nearby farmhouse, owned by a couple who runs this little kangaroo sanctuary for orphaned joeys.. and it's sort of like an attraction for tourists.. this was on the day we were leaving the farmhouse for our next destination...

Little joey drinking from a bottle of milk... :p

a little joey.. so cute..

***

Our next stop was at Cape Leeuwin.. a light house.. a beacon of light for those who thread the seas....

The information of the light house that we saw.. this was my first time seeing a proper light house up close.. though i would have liked to climb up and take a look too...

Up close with the light house, where two oceans meet.. where the indian ocean... and southern ocean meet...

After enjoying the breeze, and the scenery it was again, time to hit the roads, for out next stop...

***

Cliff Spackman - Jewel Cave...

The picture above explains the cave we went to..

after descending a flight of stone steps, one is greeted by this...

Like a big monster's mouth welcoming you to enter its stomach.. haha.. but pretty nevertheless..

The light which illuminated the caves, as can be seen gives it a glorious effect.. it's beautiful... in some ways i was comparing it to the ice cave in the alps.. but they both have their beauty.. and this was breathtaking.. though at some point it felt kind of errie.. haha..

***
at our next place there didn't seem to be much to do there, so uncle HP took the girls out for a boat ride...

Here i am trying my hand at the wheel.. it was really fun, but if you aren't careful you could make everyone seasick haha Yen ling, yen ping and i, all had a try at it.. spinning the wheel left than right to make the boat go straight... Captain Jack Sparrow?? Raawwrrr... :p

The view behind me, of the lake.. behind me is sort of like a little jetty, there is an island in the middle of the lake, with houses which cost a bomb, but are very secure, only rich people can afford a house on that island, they don't even have any shops there, and the residents of the island, have to frequently take this boat across the water just to go to work, or get their groceries.. expensive, and troublesome if you asked me.. though in some ways i guess it's nice, because the island was like a natural reserve, with loads of greenery...

***

I can't remember where this was, (i think it's near our accomodation..) but we stopped to snap some shots, and i caught a nice one with the sunset :p

***

I recall that on our last day, we headed out to Bussleton Jetty... it had a lovely view, and i love the smell of salt in the air...

The sign... i actually had quite a nice shot of yen ling and i standing on either side, but i don't know where i put it, or why didn't i pick it for the blog.. but no matter.. guess i was too lazy to upload so many pictures to start with... :p

The aforementioned Jetty behind me, apparently it has an underwater viewing station, to view the marine life.. but i recall it being closed or something.. so we had no choice; we went into their souvenier shop, snapped some pictures and we left to continue our journey..

***

On our way to sydney, we stopped by a park..looks interesting, doesn't it?

it was like a tiny island on a body of water, a lovely sight indeed :) there were children playing, and there were even dogs too.. a nice place to chill..

***

Our last stop before entering the city of Sydney, was a garden located just slightly on the outskirts of the city... This garden seemed more like a jogging path though... As it had paths winding round for you to walk...

The Picture says it all

Aunt Cindy, Dai yi, Yen Ping, Yen Ling, Me, & Uncle Robert

Taking a picture together, Uncle HP was the one taking this picture, while Aunt Alice.. well, let's just don't go there haha...

***

After a little walk at the garden, we all hopped into our cars and headed to Sydney for dinner...

Our last meal in Australia. Seafood yet again.. i must say Australia does have some really good FRESH seafood :p
Picture taken by Yen Ping. We have from left, Aunt Cindy, Uncle Robert, Dai Yi, from right, Me, Yen Ling, Aunt Alice, & Uncle HP

After that we headed off to.... where did we head off too.. damn my memory fails me.. i think our flight was after that? (Ling help me refresh my memory..) So we went to the airport, returned the cars, checked in, and you know normal airport stuff..

while waiting for our flight, we decided to play around :p Cute no? hehe
Here we have Yen Ping and I

And after that it was our flight home, a grueling 7 hour or was it that long? maybe longer, flight for me, who was kind of tired of flights, as before that i was travelling extensively around europe...

I almost declined this trip to Australia as i was tired of travelling, but i'm glad i didn't, i had my fun there :)

best of all i enjoyed all the seafood we had there.. but it's all very high in cholestoral.. thank goodness i'm still young and healthy :p

This trip has also been cross posted on Oracl3.. with more pictures, and with a more elaborate commentary.. (and also a lot of grammatical and spelling errors, because i didn't edit it before posting, and i posted them all at some ungodly hour, thus was tired and sleepy...) there is also a post dedicated to the food, we ate while on our journey..

Though the pictures here and there will be the same, (as i was lazy...) as Oracl3 is my blog, so most of the pictures are of me.. and i still haven't acquired the other pictures from my other relatives... hence the lack of pictures as well..

though when i sorted them through to be posted, i only had my blog in mind and not this.. hence the seemingly narccisstic side of me haha.. but oh well. for more pictures, and a longer commentary, help yourselves to the links below...

By the way most of the group pictures were taken by uncle robert (i think) so i still don't have the pictures from him, hence the lack of group pictures... or i would have liked to post more since this is a family blog after all.... if i ever get my hands on it, and if the slide show goes up, i will post it there..
