I know that the word preamble in law means the introduction, and seeing that there is already a post before mine, this isn't much of a starting intro. But, I will still treat this as an introduction nonetheless. Because I'll cover things that has not been covered in the previous introduction.
First, I'll start with the events leading up to the creation of this blog. Actually, this blog is set up to assist the family members in any way. Its original purpose was to help one of us to improve her creativity, improve her story telling ability and increase her command of this language in written form. To sum up, its original purpose is to assist and aid a family member in need. Soon, its mandate evolve to closing the existing gap of our family members. The gap I'm talking about is not only age gap, but also the physical gap of distance. We have relatives in Singapore, New Zealand, Kuala Lumpur, Perak, Johor, London, Prague, and one who is travelling all over. Did I miss out anyone?
Naming of the blog? Well, We couldn't think of any suitable name for a short period. We keep coming up with accronyms. Then, at the end of our meal, Sun (a.k.a. Oracle)
came out with Generation L. This idea was inspired by the existing generation X and generation Y as you can see from the description on the right. Basically, Generation would stand for our generation within the family, and the letter 'L' would be the shortform for the surname that tie us all together - Lim. As you can read from above, you would know that all of us have different surnames, and yet we are still family. There are 12 sibblings in total. That was out mother's generation. One of the sibblings got away. So as far as the family is concern, there are only 11 of them. Still, 11 is a big number. Multiply that with the offsprings that eventually came along, it became an even bigger family.
Within this huge extended family, we have family members working as lawyers and lawyers to be, we have accountants and accountants to be, we have computer programmer, computer technicians, engineer to be, businessman to be, we hav teachers, retired headmaster, retired lecturer, official family photographer, we have family members in design, bio-chemistry, construction, remiscier and nurse. Before I go on, did I miss out any occupation? I hope not, because that is one huge range of professionals within one family. Not to mention most of them are good cooks with a wide range of choices of styles of cooking. If the whole family feels like it, they can actually start their very own restaurant.
With such a huge family, some must think that it would be a little difficult to communicate with each other. Actually, it is difficult given the fact that we have some cousins in New Zealand, Singapore, Johor and scattered all around Kuala Lumpur. We do not see each other very often, but some of us still keep a close knit among ourselves. When it comes to family gathering, we make a hell of a noise no matter where we are. During family gatherings, there is no such thing as age difference or seniority. We can joke around with anyone about anything. You can even have some fun tricking relatives and still everyone will laugh about it with no reprucutions.
Well, I guess that's about all I can say for now. If I miss out anything, the next person who is going to update please follow up on it. It is never good to leave the readers hanging halfway. So I guess that's all for now, L'oncle Ben signing off.
